Markus Haag, grandson of the famous Willi Haag, has been making the wines since 1995. Since completing his viticultural studies in 1997, he has been in charge of the entire estate. He successfully combines tradition with modern techniques. Since the 15th century, the Haag family has been closely associated with viticulture in Brauneberg.

A Living Winegrower Tradition

The small half-timbered house in the Moselweinstraße, the oldest in the village, testifies to this long winegrowing tradition. The adjoining vaulted cellar, carved deep into the rock, offers optimal conditions for the upbringing and cellaring of the wines produced here.

Markus Haag currently cultivates 6.5 ha of vineyards in the steep and steepest slopes around the town of Brauneberg. A lot of handwork, such as during the harvest, is required in the steep south-facing slopes. The weathered-slate soil is ideally suited for Riesling cultivation.

Weingut Willi Haag is a founding member of the VDP, Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates. Markus Haag is dedicated to the promotion of steep slope viticulture and therefore for the preservation of this unique cultural landscape on the Mosel. The wines captivate with their fine mineral, clear, and fruity nature and belong to the absolute top in Germany.
