Weingut Van Volxem

The Van Volxem winery, located in the historic centre of Wiltingen on the Saar, dates back to a Roman villa complex, fragments of which are still visible on the grounds today. The vineyards of the estate - already planted by the Romans in the best slate sites of the Saar in the 3rd century - are among the oldest steep slopes anywhere. Rediscovered by monks from the 11th century onwards, the estate was cultivated by the Jesuit order from the 17th century onwards and established as a monastery vineyard.
