As compared to the stony silence of the Altenberg, Bockstein opens its fruity arms in a warm smoky embrace of ripe pineapple and peach. A sinewy wave of umami, dark spice and more yellow fruit emerges on the palate. Yet despite the concentration, this is ultimately a wine of depth, not width, with savory mineral edges. Balanced acidity, and a powerful current move the dry powerhouse through to a long, rich finish. Drink: 2023 - 2029. Pairing suggestion: The complexity and concentration of this wine will shine with green beans, chanterelles and ham. Veal liver and sage. Cod or haddock with fresh horseradish.

The Saar is the largest tributary of the Mosel. The winegrowing area extends from Serrig to the mouth of the Saar River at Konz, as the crow flies about twelve kilometers upstream. The acreage of the Saar region is rather small with about 750 hectares. Nevertheless, there are numerous excellent vineyards, some on steep slopes.More wines from the region
