Vollenweider
Trabener Würzgarten Schimbock Riesling trocken 2019
The Schimbock is the highest-quality parcel in the Traben Würzgarten and is located directly adjacent to Daniel Vollenweider's parade site of the Wolfer Goldgrube. The grey slate here is criss-crossed with veins of iron oxide, which gives the Riesling wines from the Schimbock a particularly deep minerality year after year. The grapes were not harvested until mid-October and the grapes were only gently pressed after a maceration period of over 60 hours in an ancient wooden basket press. After almost 2 years (!!!) on the yeast, the Schimbock was drawn to the bottle at the end of June 2020. The sensual nose is profound and mysterious, with herbal spice and the fruit of black and red berries. On the palate, though stolidly voluminous, perfectly structured with ineffable depth. Shows a sweet density that once again perfectly underpins the intense powerful base. Despite all its baby fat, distinctly slate-fresh with herbaceous spice, straightforward bite and a final salty finish. A real Schimbock through and through! We love it!!!
