The Felsenfest is probably one of the highest quality "Gutwein" in the 2021 vintage. The grapes come from the Trarbacher Schloßberg, a vineyard that was already elevated to the highest classification in the Prussian tax maps of the 19th century. Due to its south-western orientation, the grapes were able to ripen on the vine for an unusually long time and were harvested very late for a basic wine. It was not until the end of October / beginning of November that Daniel Vollenweider took the grapes off the vine. And - NOMEN EST OMEN - the nose is already very original and typical of the vineyard and classic Vollenweider, stony, citrusy and reductive. On the palate, the acidity takes the lead, but not a green unripe acidity, but a thoroughly animating ripe acidity that provides a radiant clarity on the palate. Crisp dry with an explosive inner core of minerality, complexity and tension, yet remains juicy and flows slightly salty across the palate. Superb style, fully fermented and with its 10% alcohol as lean as a bicycle spoke...Perfect!
In 1999 the Swiss Daniel Vollenweider dedicated himself to a dream: to run his own vineyard and to produce crystal clear, straightforward and yet deeply sensual Mosel-Riesling.All wines from Weingut Vollenweider
