Piesporter Goldtröpfchen

Droplets like Gold

With about 80 ha, Piesporter Goldtröpfchen is the largest single vineyard in the entire Mosel region. It is almost exclusively planted to Riesling and has an incline up to 60 degrees. The impressive amphitheater-shaped vineyard faces mostly south and has slate with a deep topsoil and good water reserves. The wines have a great mineral structure and a variety of aromas.

The discovery of a Roman press house from the third century AD at the foot of the hillside and a glass chalice testify to the importance of the Piesport hillside vineyards since Roman times.

Goldtröpfchen and Poetry

Even Ausonius, who served as the top aide to successive Roman emperors, raved about the Piesport panorama in his Mosella in 371. The writer Thomas Mann also wrote about an 1811 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen alongside an 1808 Château Lafite Rothschild in his novel Lotte in Weimar.
