Kaseler Nies’chen is—along with Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg and Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg and Herrenberg—one of the premium sites on the Ruwer.
The steep south- to southwest-facing hillside has a mix of blue and gray slate, with more fine soil at the foot of the hill. The wines from Nies’chen have an incomparable Ruwer character, with an expressive highly elegant style and spicy mineral freshness. A special feature of the site are the ungrafted, old vines that were planted over 100 years ago. On the summit of the hill, you can enjoy a spectacular view over the entire Ruwer Valley.
The Story of Agnes
A young girl named Agnes, whose parents owned a large wine estate in Kasel, was nicknamed Nies’chen (a diminutive form of the name Agnes) by the locals. Since Agnes found no life partner, despite great efforts, the father thought of a solution and gave the daughter his vineyards in order to increase her chances of marriage. Soon, a suitable husband was found. The couple in love worked together and with much ambition in the vineyards. They lovingly tied the canes in a heart shape. From then on, visitors of the vineyards recognized those from Nies’chen.
