On the Finest Slate Soil

The Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr covers the heart of the hillside, which includes the best parcels. In this section, there are crags and the sundial. The south-facing slope in this section has an incline between 60 and 70 percent and covers 10.5 ha of vineyards. On the finest slate soil, only Riesling of the best quality grows here. It is a warm site. The wines have a pronounced minerality from the rich iron content in the slate and are elegant and racy. The fame of Mosel wine has a lot to do with the wines from this slope.

Who has Turned the Clock?

The sundial in this vineyard has a technical peculiarity: it is the only sundial that can be switched from summer to winter time. And then there’s another historical feature. The oldest wine press north of the Alps was unearthed at the foot of the Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr.
