In past times, the Herrenberg was always in the shadow of the Abtsberg. Due to the changing climatic conditions, however, the Riesling wines of the two sites are in no way inferior to each other in quality today. The wines of the Herrenberger also possess an extraordinary capacity for development and can mature over decades. And never before has the Herrenberg presented itself as sublime as in the 2020 vintage. The fruity Kabinett from the Grünhäuser Herrenberg already shows a strong mineral character in the aroma. Heated flint and yeasty notes from spontaneous fermentation put the fruit in the background. Only with sufficient aeration does the ripe fruit of citrus and the typical Grünhäuser herbal aromas come to the fore. Juicy fresh on the palate with citrusy flavors of sweet and sour lemon, red juice oranges, ripe pomelo and sugared pink grapefruit. Beneath all the fruit, wet flint and red slate soil minerality lurks in the base. The vital acidity is in absolute balance with the fruity sweetness, giving it an unexpected weightlessness. A Kabinett of piquant character, blood young and beautiful... may like to mature!
