Veldenzer Elisenberg Riesling Spätlese Magnum 2021
The Veldenzer Elisenberg produces completely independent Riesling wines. Situated in a south-south-western exposure, the vineyard is somewhat cooler in a side valley of the Mosel. The cool location and its unique soil with a high proportion of quartzite, make the Riesling growing here a stylistic speciality in the Mosel valley. On the nose, the Spätlese from the Elisenberg is cool and sublimely floral, with a fine scent of white spring flowers and a lovely exotic fruit aroma of passion fruit. Notes of ripe pear and red berries complement the imposing aroma. Lots of racy acidity on the palate, with lively, polished and finely juicy fruit. The Spätlese appears taut and slender. The minerality is almost chalky and brings fine salt to the tongue in the background. Extremely elegant style and quite animatingly made. It is actually a mystery why this site is still so unknown - because the Spätlese from the Elisenberg is once again undisputedly among the vintage leaders!
