Graacher Domprobst Riesling Alte Reben trocken 2020
The care and preservation of the vines planted in 1930 alone prove the high quality of the Riesling in this site. Although the site is extremely heated by sunlight in the summer months, the water supply to the vines is always guaranteed by the high clay content of the slate soil. The holy water from the strongly clayey slate soil produces very powerful, spicy and fruity wines, and so the Domprobst Alte Reben also shows itself with a lot of intense and mouth-filling fruit. The wine is dense and juicy with a finesse-rich minerality and a lively slate aroma in the finish. Due to the long ageing in traditional fuder barrels, the character of the wine is deep and firm, multi-faceted and complex. In addition to the dominating typical citrus aromas of the Riesling grape, it is above all the herbaceous and earthy hints that shape the character of the Graacher Domprobst and distinguish it from the surrounding sites in Graach. The extraordinary ripeness of the Riesling from the Domprobst is remarkable; surely this was a decisive reason why the church dignitaries laid their "sacred" hand on this vineyard site.
