As early as 1910, when Germany still had an emperor, the Riesling vines for this wine were planted in the Erdener Prälat, which is framed amidst rocks. The vineyard site, with its colossal rock formations, is dizzyingly steep and has a perfect sun exposure facing exactly south. Due to its exceptional warm microclimate, the site enables healthy and fully ripened grapes to be harvested even in difficult years. Known for its noble sweet top qualities, the Erdener Prälat has a world-wide reputation and a great international standing. The red clay weathered slate gives the Riesling grown here a special fire and spice. The Erdener Prälat Auslese by Christian Hermann offers a beguiling noble nose of exotic fruit, delicate herbal nuances and a very penetrating smoky slate tone. The palate is radiant with lots of fruity melting, paired with a minerality that seems almost abysmal. The sumptuous fruity liquid shows sweet flavours of ripe mango, papaya and passion fruit. Everything is wrapped in fine salty caramel. The twitching acidity provides the perfect counterplay for the luxurious fruity sweetness and gives the mineral spice its vibrant flicker.
